If you happen to go to Grain & Salt's Web site before ever experiencing their Indian food, you might get the wrong idea about them by reading the prominently placed tag line, "The Ultimate Authentic Indian & Pakistani Taste". You might think that it's a marketing ploy to subliminally convince you that Grain & Salt is the best Indian food around or that they're just saying that because, well, have you ever really had bad Indian food and how else are they going to stand out from the competition?
It could be a pretentious statement but it's not. Having eaten dinner at Grain & Salt a few times, I stand up to say that this is the best Indian food in the local Boston area - the tag line is right on.
Grain & Salt is easy to miss when driving by the 431 Cambridge Street location, and it's not on busy Brighton or Harvard Avenues which may account for its slow recognition in the neighborhood and among visitors. Once you see it for the first time, it's hard to not want to go in to find out for yourself how such an elegant, downtown presence could have entered the area.
The menu is standard Indian food, but there's a difference in quality that separates it from any other Indian restaurant I've eaten at, creating a memorable taste that makes me crave their samosas, a suggestive atmosphere that's both relaxing and rich, and attentive service. You'll want to come back.
